Slovak Capital of Biodiversity
REC Slovakia, under the patronage of the Slovak Minister of the Environment, and in collaboration with the Union of Slovak cities and towns will realize the competition so-called “Slovak Capital of Biodiversity” in 2010 and 2011. The aim of the competition is to promote and to encourage local government initiatives for the conservation of biodiversity in urban areas.
All municipalities will have three months to fill in a questionnaire by means of which the winners of each category will be selected. The best municipality will also be awarded the “Slovak Capital of Biodiversity” .
The topics of the competition are:
- Protection of areas and protection of species
- Green areas in your city
- Biodiversity in Agriculture, Forestry and Water
- Planning Instruments and management of areas
- Organization, Cooperation and Communication
Considering the Slovak Municipalities number of inhabitants, three categories have been selected:
- From 0 to 10 000 inhabitants
- From 10 001 to 50 000 inhabitants
- Over 50 000 inhabitants
In the implementation the competition, REC Slovakia will cooperate very closely with the National Advisory board, composed by the representatives of Ministry of Environment, of the Slovak Agency for environment, of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, representative of the Faculty of Natural sciences, of The Union of towns and cities of Slovakia and by the representative from The Association of the Slovak cities and Municipalities.
