Hungarian Capital of Biodiversity
The Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency, in collaboration with the National Association of Local Municipalities, plans to announce the competition so-called “Hungarian Capital of Biodiversity” in 2010 and 2011 in the framework of this international project.
The aim of the competition is to initiate the attractiveness of the nature, biodiversity and environment of municipalities. It contributes to improve the quality of the natural and built environment (e.g. increasing green spaces, eradication of ragweed, preservation of wetland, afforestation).
According to the number of inhabitants municipalities can apply for the “Hungarian Capital of Biodiversity” competition in the following 5 categories: <2000; <10000; <30000; <100000; >100000.
The topics of the competition are: municipal green areas; planning instruments; species and biotope conservation; agriculture and forestry; water bodies; organization and cooperation; public relation and environmental education.
The winners will own the prestigious award for one year.The best practices and shining examples will be collected and introduced in brochure.
